This painting of the Chicago River was created in November of 2004, when I was first inspired to paint the city. One cold winter's night I ventured through the streets of Chicago and snapped a series of photos at places that had always peaked my interest. These initial photos served as reference material when I went back to my studio and created four paintings that launched the beginning of my Chicago art series. These paintings include the Chicago River, Art Institute, Chicago Water Tower and the Sears Tower.

Having studied fine art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, I visited the Art Institute on a regular basis throughout the course of my education. I was always intrigued by the two bronze lions that guard the entrance to the Art Institute.
